St. John

Saint John

The Virgin Islands National Park occupies approximately two-thirds of the island, and it’s clear why it's affectionately called by local residents the “Love City.” Fall in love with its laid-back feel, nature, and unspoiled beaches. The park's presence has helped ensure that the island’s soft, white sand beaches and warm turquoise waters remain unspoiled.

St. John has two major towns. Cruz Bay, the larger and more developed of the two, is where visitors to the island arrive via ferry (there is no airport on St. John). Cruz Bay also offers numerous shops, bars and restaurants, and is the location of most government services. The shops in Cruz Bay cater mainly to tourists, with items like fine clothing, souvenir t-shirts, bathing suits and trinkets.

Despite its small size and population of just over 5,000 permanent residents, there is no shortage of restaurants on St. John. In Cruz Bay, you’ll find everything from local fare at charming West Indian food carts to bar food complimented by a beautiful beach scenery to a surprising selection of fine dining spots.

Out east, Coral Bay is St. John’s more funky, eclectic and casual town. Here, you’ll find small-town charm with a unique collection of shops, bars and restaurants. Coral Bay is characterized by its distinctive residents, many of whom reside on boats in the town’s harbor. Shops here cater to tourists and residents alike, and similar to Cruz Bay, there is no shortage of restaurants.
